You'll stop laughing at the unfortunate name of this device about a minute into this video of PMPINSIDE's Uren V1 being unboxed. The slim in-car PC/UMPC hybrid packs all of the features we wrote about before: 1GHz processor, 30GB hard drive, Windows XP, GPS, FM transmitter, 3-megapixel camera, DMB TV tuner, two USB ports, audio out port, miniSD and compact flash slots. Cripes, that feature set rivals my current laptop. It also comes with a remote control (for the back seat). And it's got no buttons—just a 7-inch wide touchscreen. At last year's CES, Gefen announced a wireless USB hub with 30-foot range. It was pure vapor, like most of the ultra-wideband wireless USB gear we saw. For this year's CES the company is announcing a wireless USB hub with a 100-foot range—along with wireless extenders for component audio, HDMI and VGA. Gefen claims that three of these products are already in production, and I sure hope the HDMI extender is one of them. Here's a rundown:* The four port USB extender uses Wisair's 3.5GHz ultra-wideband and will have up to 400 Mbps throughput for $249.
* The component audio extender can deliver up to 1080i resolution within 300-feet line of site. It will cost $1,499.
* The wireless HDMI extender uses TZero's ultra-wideband, will have a 30-foot range, and support resolution up to 1080i and 400 Mbps transfer speeds for $499.
* The VGA extender has a 100-foot range and supports 1280x1024 or 780p resolutions, no word on pricing.
Gefen's new wireless extenders will all be available in Q1 2007—we hope.

Dual-Mode Vehicle Takes to Road and Rail
Is it a bus or a train? This dual-mode mini train is both. The JR Hokkaido Railway Company in Japan has been testing a bus that can switch between steel wheels and street-ready rubber tires, tooling around on the train track as a solo vehicle and avoiding accidents with satellite assistance, and then driving on city streets just like any other bus. After its successful test run last month, the company vows to make its first trip with paying passengers next April. In addition to its versatility, the vehicle's $150,000 cost is just a seventh of the price of a conventional diesel rail car, and it's easier and cheaper to maintain, too. When these babies hit the road, every street wil be a potential train station.

Attach any USB 2.0 hard drive to the router and it becomes accessible to the WRT350N's media server so you can access all your files anywhere in the home. It's even UPnP compatible, so your Windows XP box can detect it immediately.
The wireless portion uses MIMO, which increases range, decreases dead-spots and overall gives you more speed for your money. Since it's draft 802.11N, there's no guarantee it will work with the final N products. Since the WRT350N isn't' actually available yet, you won't have to make up your mind whether to go draft N or wait for full N just yet. – Jason Chen

A fabricante de chips Via Technologies anunciou, nesta terça-feira (03/10), acordo que permitirá a montagem de PCs no Brasil por um custo inferior a 700 reais no Brasil.Para oferecer o produto, o primeiro passo foi fechar um acordo com a empresa MCD componentes, que irá produzir as placas-mãe baseadas na tecnologia pc-1. Estas serão utilizadas por sua matriz, a Amazon PC para montar o produto final.
